My dad wanted to start accepting bitcoins at his practice and I managed to talk him out of it. Do I get a promotion?

Doesn't necessarily work that way if accepting it can lead to less money overall due to side effects of accepting the payment method. This is why even services like Bitpay where the merchant never touches bitcoins can cost more than they save even assuming 0 implementation costs.

And saying you should accept whatever payment they given assuming you can convert it to money that is useful for you doesn't appear to actually apply to small businesses because I doubt any of the small businesses around here in southwest GA will accept any other currency than USD. Even if they can charge more to go through with the currency conversion process, I doubt it is worth the time and effort to do so for them as well as just making shit needlessly more complicated for them by potentially causing people who would just pay with regular USD or some other very common payment method to try and pay with some other currency that you have to convert instead of simply using USD. This is pretty much the situation of Bitcoin as a payment method. Anybody that accepts it in reality and not just simply using Bitpay so they never touch that shit will have to go through an extra tedious process with little benefit. There won't be enough money brought in that wouldn't otherwise happen to justify that tedious shit that takes up time and effort for these small businesses. This appears to be the case with small businesses that said they were accepting bitcoin before abandoning it soon after they started accepting it.

This is one of the reasons why many retailers no longer accept checks. They are no longer worth it and therefore it makes sense to reject a customer who wants to pay with a check to avoid having to deal with that shit. Will some old grannies be mad that they can't pay with check? Sure, but that isn't worth having to deal with goddamn checks for many businesses.

They also probably know when it isn't worth it in terms of appealing to customers that aren't actually important to revenues when many of these stores will have the vast majority of revenue coming from a small percentage of customers. Bending over for the others that make up a very small portion of the revenue can be a waste of time and resources that should be spent on other aspects. And Bitcoiners aren't a group that is going to be among the biggest customers for any business except the ponzi scheme ones.
