My dream? It’s fading away...

Okay listen, I had this very long reply, much longer than this one. I’m talking paragraphs upon paragraphs that I was ready to send to you, but I condensed it into this. You’re only turning 20, you have time my bro, and plenty of it.

That said, you’ll never be a pro if you have to deal with these issues that you’re constantly having. So what do you need to do? ESTABLISH YOURSELF, ESTABLISH YOUR INDEPENDENCE!

Don’t listen to the kids on here who have no idea what the real world is like and are just saying move out and chase your dream. I’m 22, so I only have a couple of years on you, but when my family and I stopped talking and I was on my own, bills, taxes, rent, insurance, and bills all became very real. Eventually you will be on your own completely, so you need to make sure you can support yourself. As soon as you do that you can turn your attention to becoming a pro gamer.

As soon as you don’t have to rely on others you can focus on whatever the hell you want.

Homeless people don’t play video games and neither do people who have to live under the house rules of parents that condemn video games.

Luckily, I’ve reconciled with my family and they’re helping me pay for school. I figure, this coming from a guy with a half Asian family, if you talk to your mom seriously about helping with school they’d be much happier with you and might even help. If that’s not what you want, then fine, get a 2 year degree or go to a tech school, whatever will allow you to get a better job and to live on your own. (This doesn’t mean ostracizing your family, which I also did being younger and dumber).

TL;DR Becoming completely independent will allow you to focus on this dream, otherwise your mom does have a say in what you do.

The unknown is scary, being on your own will be scary, but if you make it out alive, the feeling of independence and true freedom is something I can’t describe in words.

Good luck man, be ambitious, but also stay realistic.

Hope to see you on Cloud9 one day.
