My friend just got 3 months worth of food from his mom, made me realize some things

Ugh, that's awful. My Nmother's banned breakfast foods, so I basically never eat anything in the morning. I'm basically having a granola bar for lunch and maybe a drink, if there are any left from her last run to the market. I don't pay attention to my weight, but I know I'm incredibly thin.

Back at our old home, she would go shopping once every 2 weeks or so, which she said was because the grocery store was 15 minutes or so away, and she didn't like going out.

Now that we've moved, the nearest food store is (in her own words) "three minutes away", yet she still neglects to buy enough food for two weeks, and never goes out more than once every two weeks. Sometimes she goes shopping during the day and doesn't buy anything for me, or most recent bs is when she went shopping, didn't buy anything for me, and then claimed it was because I didn't come along (I was working on homework, due the day after).

I have something wrong with my thumb - an infection, I guess? - and it's happened before. It swelled up, and was in excruciating pain (to the point where I literally couldn't do anything), yet she refused to take me to the doctor, saying something along the lines of it being a "waste of time". Thankfully, I was with my grandmother, who soaked in Epsom salt to calm the pain.

I asked my mother to buy Epsom salt maybe two days ago. We're running out of food for the week. She just told me she's not going to bother going to the store to-day.

It's not like we're low on money. She buys things for herself when she wants them. She's just very parsimonious, and refuses help for others. I can't imagine what sort of shit goes on in her head that makes her act like this.

TL;DR this sort of stuff seems really common with Nparents. I thought it was the only one with this sort of issue. I'm hoping you've recovered from that sort of neglect.
