(my post from another thread) A fast way to tell if it's a "sham" marriage or not.

Every international relationship is unique. I have a foreign-to-me husband too! We live in a third country now, but first it was his country and maybe soon it'll be my country. But we were lucky and didn't have anything too serious tying us down and had the skills to move. It's not always so easy.

Plus, there's a big thing about language. Like it or not (I can't decide my own feelings), English is the lingua franca of much of the world. And language acquisition is tough as you grow out of childhood. Motivation is lacking as well. These non-US spouses (with the exception of Karine) speak English already.

As we've seen, most American spouses do not speak anything but English (I know, not necessarily their fault and it's getting better). So for say, I don't know, that guy who married the Ukrainian lady to move to Prague where she was living or Ukraine, he'd have to learn Czech, Russian, and/or maybe Ukrainian. Not easy for an English speaker without dedication.

But romantically, of course, love has no borders.
