I need some guidance on setting up a plan.

You don't need to burn calories at any gym or on any run. Stop exercising to burn calories. STOP IT! Snap out of it. There are people that can't snap out of it and they're called bulimics. For the rest of us, exercise-for-the-sake-of-calories is just a rookie mistake.

What you should be working toward is a life that you like, one that includes activity that you love. Repeated activity is classified as exercise. Don't do exercise as a verb, enjoy your exercise (noun). Knowing its calories is so you can support it properly and, if it works out, even use it for a little (I really mean little) additional weight loss.

Actually read the links and watch the video I linked above.

Essentially what I'm wondering if whether I managed to burn a pound a week at the gym will contribute to the reduction in calories.

Yes, sure, whatever. But it missed the points. It's pointless unless you keep doing it. You won't keep doing something that you don't love to do.
