Neighbors sue man to stop auto repairs at his own home

I think that when zoning was first invented at the turn of the century you used to have situations where all the polluting factories would go to where the poor neighborhoods were. Sometimes you'd have noise and industry in more middle scale neighborhoods too. So because of noise, pollution, etc (lowered value for residential real estate) and votes and politics, zoning was created.

This way if you had a house and an investment there that you're literally living in, a lot of people don't want noise and traffic, and they think that zoning should solve that.

They might be in the right or wrong depending on how the zoning works.

Here it looks like the guy is completely in the right to have his own garage and fix cars for his friends.

But I can imagine the frustration of someone who has bought a house while neighbors set about doing things (not on this video) like race cars out front, leave cars on the yard up on blocks, park RVs and boats all over the place, leave trash and lumber laying around, let chickens run loose, all the things that lower your house's value by living in a run down neighborhood.

But that's obviously why you would want to live in a conventanted / restricted neighborhood. Now no one can plant an American flag, mow their grass before 8 on a weekend, etc.
