As someone who's friend was sexually assaulted , when the thing came out I also took the "neutral perspective" and let the two people first solve matters between each other considering both were friends , it was a conflicting issue for me , since i viewed myself as someone who upholded women's rights even if minimally ( yes very white knight yay) yet I couldn't dehumanise the culprit either, what ended up happening was I lost months of time with my friend who was assaulted, and due to my own awkwardness/uselessness I couldn't approach them even after the culprit confessed. Things are okay now between me and my friend cos they are much more mature than I am , however I will regret it till the end. So I've decided to believe the accuser if a similar situation arises, cos believe it or not at least in my society the accuser is isolated by people most times. Of course in a judicial process evidence and law will prevail , not my morality, neither will I demonise the accused , because by doing that we put things back into a black and white binary and return to square one. I have no qualms with being proven wrong in whom I support, but the decision I have taken to support the victim on a moral basis , even if without proof at the moment, will be the least regrettable decision. Sorry for the long essay, but seeing the commenter above saying to believe the person claiming to be raped can come across as illogical, but here's why I agree with them. Hope I don't get downvoted :3
