No union mines left in Kentucky, where labor wars once raged

Actually, look up the dock workers union right now. Its a dream job with the latest round of hires being on a wait list from 1999.

-Dock terminals may only hire their own managers, all other employees are from the union. -Dock employees show up at the start of any day they wish to work. -Dont show up for 6 months? No problem, your union so you get your job. -Clipboard guy that checks serial numbers in the yard? 75k starting. -If a terminal manager fires you, you just go home for the day. You can choose what terminal you wish to work that day, including any that were "fired" from because they can only keep you away for one day.
-Dock workers have been negotiating for money. It was supposedly settled. -A good number of the dock workers didn't like the terms so they just stopped showing up for work (not an official strike) and will come back when they want, and keep their jobs because once you are part of the union, you are always part of it.
-My wife works in the wine business and these guys have been fucking over exports so bad (40% of product being shipped is routinely delayed for at least 2 weeks) that the company actually went up to the Port of Oakland and had a meeting with terminal management to see if there was anything they could do. They pretty much said that there is nothing they can do. -Bottom line is these guys can make 80k entry level in a job that they literally can choose what days they work, what terminal they work at, what specific job they do for the day, and cannot get fired. Oh, and the ports can only hire union men to man the terminals.

Some unions are good, but there is a reason why unions have been labelled with corruption. If you piss off the dock workers union, they can fuck over this whole country.
