Do not hire your friend to make cover art.

disdain for readers?

I don't know why everyone here equates me having a unique cover as somehow anti-reader. If they don't like my art, they're certainly not going to like my stories. And if they do like my scribbles, hopefully they'll enjoy the story even more.

Communication is key. In all of my stories, I am saying "this is who I am, and this is what I think a good story is." I want my cover to convey that as well. That's all I've been saying here, but I keep getting talked down to and it's honestly frustrating.

Most of the comments on here are pressing the point that the cover is marketing, sales, ROI, rankings, algorithms. That's fine for those who go that route. You can outright lie on your covers, right? Why not? It's all about sales, and as long as people are buying, then that's the right cover for you.

I think it was a mistake to post this in this sub. This sub is for professionals who pump out books like a business, so I shouldn't be surprised for the pushback when I say I value something more than income.
