Music is music. Some is good, some sucks. Deal.
I was around in 94 too. I liked the Geto Boys' exploitation better, everyone else was just followers after that. It's a dumb shallow genre at best, and bottom line there's a never ending list of better music and musicians out there. He courted his death by starting feuds and letting us know in his album titles that he was going to leave us alone soon enough (ya promise? I hope so. Maybe that'll stop Sean Combs from ripping off Sting to bank on some pathetic tribute to my fallen comrade BS, ha ha. If you really loved the guy you wouldn't have been helping him broadcast his death-wish, ha ha. But someone made money on it, so it's all good. ha ha, part of the "game," ha ha. As in... something only children take seriously.
I don't care if people without taste were "blown away" but the only thing HUGE was the guy's waistline and a lot of commercialized crap and marketing muscle. And that's how the public was also blown away by Milli Vanilli if you check the sales. Lot of bad taste out there. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and mine's better, sales and a small sliver of the overall public's reaction is meaningless in the long run.
Listen, I'll give Chris Wallace the credit of being decent, there's even worse out there if you can believe it. He's maybe in the top 100 in the world of rappers but had nothing worthwhile to say.
Of course, Wallace doesn't deserve to be in the list of top 5000 in terms of popular music and musicians, though. I could prove it to you by looking at the simplicity of his rhyme schemes, the repetition of his themes and words (low vocabulary), the immaturity of his subject matter and the basic nothing better than the rest of it crappyness of his backing tracks, etc. (Thanks, Herb Alpert and Nile Rodgers, nice hooks they borrowed from you! Nothing like a cover tune to do the heavy lifting).
Go ahead and YOU take YOUR lumps, chump. Your presumption admits your poverty in that you take it all so seriously. Me, I'm just a detached academic making educated observations for the sake of schooling the next generation.
