Medical residencies should go to Canadians first | The Star

I mean, I wouldn’t listen to a word Doug Ford says, let alone many politicians. Not sure how Ontario works compared to B.C., but there’s a registry that shows every physician and their pay. Here in B.C., an urban family doctor is doing well to break 6 figures after taxes and overhead, and that’s if they pump through patients every 10 minutes and skip lunch. There’s a reason family doctors are leaving Vancouver, they simply can’t afford to live there anymore. If you work rural, you can definitely make a good living, simply because of the incentives put in place to encourage rural practice.

Moral of the story: you no longer go into medicine for the money (unless you gun for opthomology)
