I was living in Finland at the time as an exchange student, and was taking the overnight ferry from Finland to Sweden. At the night club that was on the boat I saw a very beautiful woman sitting at the bar. I walked up to her and asked her if I could buy her a drink, and she readily accepted. It was then I noticed that her right arm was in a sling. She seemed a bit self conscious of it so I promptly ignored it. We chatted and got to know each other a bit and after a couple of drinks I asked her if she wanted to dance, and she declined. I was a bit let down but she was very interesting and I was enjoying talking to her. The very next song she asked if I still wanted to dance, and the answer was a YES! I then realized that she only wanted to dance to the slow songs so as not to bump her arm on anyone. And as it turns out she broke her arm playing baseball. (For those familiar with Finnish baseball she was a pitcher and got hit by the bat.)

We danced a few songs, had a few drinks, and after the bar closed down we went to her cabin where we picked up a bottle of vodka and went up on the top deck of the ship, found a sheltered spot out of the wind, and got very comfortable, with her leaning against me and me with my arms around her. And we talked. The entire night. Come morning, there was a very long, lingering kiss that lasted about 15 minutes, and I we then went our separate ways. I never saw her again.

And the reason nothing else happened was because both of us were sharing our cabin with other people and I could sense that she would not have wanted to just have a quickie at the back of the boat. And while the interest in more was there for both of us the fact that we did not made the night more memorable. I had a few one night stands while I was in Finland and I cannot tell you anything about them. But this woman, Nina, I remember just about every detail of that night, and that was back in 1989.
