Nurses Are The Assholes Of The Hospital

I was lucky in that my teachers and classmates were great in nursing school; some of the nurses we followed during capstone were another story. Here’s a story to show just the wide range of nurses out there.

I was working the mid-shift at a hospital. A classmate and I were assigned to follow a nurse each that day. We were sitting at the nurse station with our respective nurse and going over the day (see which rooms we were assigned and their case history, their med schedules, etc), when, suddenly, the nurse my classmate was assigned to follow stops everything and goes straight to the charge nurse wanting a change because they want care for a certain patient. They go to talk to the nurse assigned to that patient to see if they’re okay with the change. That nurse then goes ‘if she can change, I want a change.’ THEN IT SNOWBALLS! My classmate and I are just sitting there as all the nurses are arguing about which patient they want! Finally, 30 minutes since the shift started (remember this started a few minutes BEFORE shift start), one nurse passing by signals to us to follow her. She was the only one actually working at that moment as all the other nurses were still arguing. She wasn’t even assigned to teach us that day, but took it upon herself to be our teacher because the nurses we were assigned to follow were still arguing. Those nurses we were originally assigned to follow and learn from that dat? Didnt even notice my classmate and I were gone until an hour later.
