Obama: US must criticize Israel if it is to defend it

I wasn't nitpicking. In the United States at least, the differences between residents and citizens is enormous. I don't know how it is in Israel, but citizenship vs residency usually isn't considered splitting hairs as one affords more legal rights than the other. We are specifically talking about legal rights.

I live in the United States. I'm aware of the difference. You understand perfectly that those who are members of one state in any capacity are not the same as those who are not a member of the state in any capacity. It is not a racial distinction in this case, it is a national one.

And Israel just claimed it was theirs. Today. Just hours ago.

False. A deputy minister, who is not the Foreign Minister, claimed it. She has no control of foreign policy. Note the article:

Hotovely will manage the ministry's day-to-day functions, but Netanyahu will remain in charge of foreign policy.

Netanyahu's spokesman, Mark Regev, declined comment on Hotovely's speech, but said Netanyahu's statements Wednesday reflected his policy.

Now that we've established that Netanyahu is in charge of foreign policy, and that Netanyahu's spokesman said policy is based on what he said Wednesday, let's note that Wednesday he said:

I support the vision of two states for two peoples

Now I'm not sure about you, but I believe the Prime Minister who is acting Foreign Minister more than a deputy foreign minister with no power. What do you think?

Also, what do you mean by residents? If you simply mean people existing in that country, as you've done for African Americans during slavery, then I don't understand how Palestinians aren't residents. Israel just, today, claimed the West Bank was theirs in full.

Israel did not claim that. A foreign minister's deputy who goes off-policy is not representative of the entire country. The response pointed out that Israel's policy is not consistent with the statement of Hotovely. So please don't conflate the two.
