Obligatory marginalized character.

Placing a PoC or non-hetero/cis character in your film/show/whatever for the sake of having one in the show. Generally, this will be a minor, inconsequential character with little in the way of actual characterization. They just exist so people can’t say there aren’t black/gay/insert-demographic characters in the show. In a horror/slasher movie they’ll probably end up getting offed first since they’re the most expendable. Bonus points if they’re a black guy or a Latina woman, extra bonus points if said Latina woman is tough, tomboyish, or “spicy.”

The character Token (Tolkien?) Black from South Park is a parody of this trope.
