[OFF-TOPIC] Rolling Stone won't discipline writer who wrote UVA gang rape story that was later debunked

Uh, isn't that obstruction of justice? I'm pretty sure once your claims of gang rape make national news, you either comply with a police investigation or you go to jail. Why is she getting off on that?

Pussy Pass. Throwing women who are hysterical liars in jail is bad optics, and enrages all the other lying hysterics out there. So they just don't do it.

Plus the feminists have created a whole narrative where if you punish women for maliciously lying about being raped for their own gain, then women who have actually been raped will be afraid to come forward and report.

The reality is, of course, that the complete lack of consequence for maliciously lying about rape causes everyone to be suspicious of all woman who claim rape, short perhaps of those who get beaten and battered in the process. If we actually punished these hysterical liars, with either criminal charges or, perhaps more usefully, mandatory psychological counseling, that would discourage this sort of confabulation, and give more credence to women who actually report.

Jackie needs to be punished for what she did.

No, she doesn't. She needs to get counseling because she's clearly mentally disturbed. Keep the following in mind:

  • She initially lied about being raped to a very small group of personal friends.
  • She then repeated a variation of the lie to a reporter.

That's all she did. She told maybe 5 people a wild and fantastic story. She told the first group because, near as I can gather, she had concocted a bizarre plan to cause Ryan Duffin to fall in love with her by presenting herself as a rape victim in need of comforting. She probably told the reporter what she wanted to hear because the reporter's attention fulfilled some deep psychological need.

"Jackie" is a sad, tragic figure, and she really should get counseling, but I don't think she needs to be punished.

And so does the writer and editor for Rolling Stone.

Well, she should certainly never work as a journalist again.
