you email attendings and residents in specialties you're interested in. As an MS1 I'd probably start doing that now as the year winds down. talk to them about timelines, tell them you wanna jump on something that can be done quickly and eager to contribute.

residents and fellows will all have a bunch of research proejcts that they want to get done quickly too for their CV so they'll more than welcome you. Also look for younger attendings that want to publish. older attendings are kinda out of the publishing game since they paid their dues, but the younger ones are gonna try and pump them out. talk to MS2/3/4s at your school to see who they worked with.
