One image for every NFL team that will infuriate the entire fanbase

But do you actually know the details of the case? For instance:

  • That much of the evidence the NFL claimed to have for the bounty program was never released, and from what was shown to the media one nfl.com reporter said it was "hard to say that the evidence proves definitively that players were rewarded for intentionally targeting opponents for injury."

  • That there was no statistically detectable increase in the number of injuries suffered by teams in games against the Saints during the time the bounty program was said to take place.

  • That none of the hits that were later claimed to be attempts at intentionally injuring players were penalized at the time.

  • That even the league admits the program was not officially sanctioned by the team and did not use team money, and what evidence there was for a bounty program indicated that it was run by the DC Gregg Williams.

And based on that information Goodell determined that the appropriate punishment was the loss of two 2nd rounders, a year of suspension for our head coach, 6 games of suspension for our assistant head coach, 8 games of suspension for our GM, a $500,000 fine, and multi-game suspensions for 4 players. Throw in stuff like how Goodell basically admitted that he made the punishment more severe because the accused tried to defend themselves, and I think it's easy to see why Saints fans hate Goodell.

Most Saints fans will admit that there was probably some kind of exchange of money among players for big hits and big plays (stuff like sacks and pick sixes), but there's very little evidence of rewards for specifically causing injury, and it wasn't sanctioned by the team. And given that information, the severity and nature of the punishments given by Goodell are unreasonable.
