It's only been a few months since I decided to stop calling myself a Liberal. I can't believe how much I'm already hating a group I used to self-consciously belong to. Jon Lovett RTed this.

I agreed with you an hour ago, but I just saw the comments section on the wapo article about the millennial left being like the Old Left, and I can't say I have any warm feelings for the boomer liberals leaving absurd comments there. You can only be called an alt-right Russian agent by self-claimed champions of "progressive" values so much. A lot of these people literally think we're spoiled children even though they actively voted for right wing Democrats to destroy the economy for their own children. They supported Clinton's "era of big government is over" rhetoric and celebrated when the welfare state was gutted because they bought into racist propaganda about "welfare abuse." They stood with the GOP and called anyone critical of the post-9/11 wars anti-American. Chelsea Clinton literally led a fanatical "pro-America" counter-protest of a Stop the War Coalition march that Corbyn led. At the same time we do need to differentiate between Hillary stans and regular liberals. The former are legitimately right wing while the latter are often very sympathetic to social democracy and many think they're as left wing as possible and receive a lot of abuse from their conservative dumbass neighbors who think Obama is a leftist. American conservatives are also vastly more disgusting in their views than even Clintonites. Clintonites will support military intervention that kills anonymous and out of sight Muslims and claim "99% of police are good guys," but they won't place a severed pig's head on the front step of a Muslim daycare or call Trayvon Martin a "little thug." It's frustrating in a lot of ways, but I guess that's just part of being a socialist in a (currently) deeply anti-socialist society.
