Other cities have secret societies made up only of rich people, right? Like, the Veiled Prophet, that's not just St Louis being super fucking weird, right? It's the regular amount of weird, right?

There are possibly 40+ Masquerade balls with courts in New Orleans Covington Metairie Shreveport Baton Rouge that all have a mythic royal court designated by their club.

Probably 80 if we add in the masquerade courts with LGBT backgrounds. Just for the New Orleans and surrounding areas.

Usually debutant presentations that don't have a court are just called cottilion. As we don't have kings or queens or royalty to be presented to in American cities the balls that do are masquerades. A masquerade is still a cotillion but it includes a presentation to the court.

The ones with a court are a presentation to court. Like when the Queen of England hosted the Queen Charlotte's Ball (which was not a masquerade). Or the Viennese ball I believe has no royalty involved, but I believe Greece has a ball with a royal member present still.
