Pantheon sounds like 1999EQ and early WoW

I'll expand slightly upon the Brad McQuaid sentiment in case you are not aware of it.

Brad McQuaid was one of the original three behind EverQuest 1. The original three were Brad McQuaid, Bill Trost, and Steve Clover. Eventually in January 2002, he left SOE and founded Sigil Games with Jeff Butler. The rumored reason for this was that EQ1 no longer aligned with the original vision of the game and there were no plans (from SOE's perspective) to "realign".

Sigil Games was the beginning of the "Brad McQuaid Stigma". His company found a publisher overnight in Microsoft Games. At the time, almost every MMO was made in 2 1/2 -> 3 1/2 years (source: Raph Koster interview). McQuad hit 3 years. Then 4 years. McQuaid wanted more and more time, and Microsoft eventually cut the cord. They had enough. SOE eventually picked up Sigil Games and gave them more time and money, although SOE was much stricter about it. When it hit nearly 5 years into development, SOE forced them to release it because McQuaid wanted another year. McQuaid had mismanaged Sigil Games horrible, went well over the time budget that any MMO had, and never really delivered most of the stuff it promised. The other rumors about him and his conduct at Sigil Games are unverified rumors and should be taken as rumors.

Five months after launch, SOE bought out Sigil Games, and McQuaid was demoted to a "consultant"position. He eventually vanished for a few years. In 2012, he came back to Vanguard. The next year, he transitioned into a role on EverQuest. Later that year, he resigned from SOE.

In January 2014, he announced this game, "Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen". Pantheon was a bit of a popular subject on this sub-Reddit. It was Brad McQuaid, one of the creators of EverQuest 1, but this is also the person who horribly mismanaged Vanguard. Which Brad McQuaid would we get?

Well, the Kickstarter failed, and McQuaid said he'd look elsewhere. At first it was sad. Well, a few months later, the entire company of Visionary Realms came crashing down because McQuaid didn't pay his employees. He didn't compensate them for products that were mandatory for the company. Many devs said they had to buy Unity Pro for $1,500, but McQuaid "promised to pay them back". That day never came. These people were considered paid employees of Visionary Realms, but they weren't paid. McQuaid ran that team into the ground, and the industry sentiment was that McQuaid was a complete no-go for project management.

So, keep in mind that while Pantheon may sound positive currently, McQuaid has history as being very terrible at project management, and there will likely be many, many more project mismanagement steps to come in Pantheon.
