The whole litter bug thing put the emphasis on the asthetics of trash everywhere it doesn't belong rather than the massive amounts of trash.

The result is clean up efforts and even rackets liked the sponsor a highway program. In countries that don't have similar values, resources or systems three trash just blows everywhere.

You can really see it in some pictures from India where a fence or river can get straight up coated in packaging.

My point is it depends on how you define the problem, we generate more trash in the US but we're better at putting it in neat piles.

Industry attempted to set to focus on the asthetic problem and it mostly worked.
