People who have played DnD, what is the greatest moment you have experienced in a campaign?

So we had a bit of a Elven genocide problem :/

The campaign started off with 3 humans, a half-elf and a full elf. Right from the get go, one of the humans (We'll call him Goebbels) had a back story that he absolutely hated elves because of his family being killed by elves, yadda yadda yadda.

So the first adventure was the players having to make their way through a forest, and deal with some elves for safe passage. The elves sent an envoy to meet with the players and Goebbels kills the envoy as soon as he lets his guard down. It was a real "If you're not with me then you are with the enemy" deal.

The Elf player tried to attack Goebbels but apparently he had planned for that and the Half-Elf ended up backstabbing the full elf and killing him outright.

The players were harassed and chased through the forest by the elven fighters and eventually escaped. The player who was running an elf character was told that elves were no longer accepted in the party and that this was now a human party. So roll a human or die. He did.

The interactions with other elves got worse and worse as the party waylaid and turned to banditry on elves that they came across. Eventually word got out about these characters and their crimes against the Elves as a people. It got pretty heated up with retaliatory elven strikes on the characters, them being blacklisted from border towns, etc.

The half-elf actually became the most outspoken critic of elves and went out of his way to impress and please Goebbels with viciousness and savagery. We tried to get the campaign back on track but that only ended up in more power over the local church in the hands of Goebbels and his band of elven haters. Tensions mounted all across the land as Elves struck randomly at human settlements in an attempt to put the humans on notice.

Goebbels paid bards to walk the lands and speak of Elvish atrocity and war on Humans. He paid very handsomely to anyone who would spread this message.

Eventually the Half-Elf was captured and killed by elvish mauraders and Goebbels sort of snapped. He set about setting fire to the nearby forest, hiring bands of commoners to do the arson for him. The remaining Elves were driven out of the forest by the approaching wall of flame and fire. There was massive human loss as well but Goebbels had gone too far now.

Eventually he and the rest of the party broke through the besieged elven defenses with a Church sponsored army and they put the elven leaders to the sword and killed as many as they could kill. In that kindgom, being an elf is now a kill on sight offense.

So we had a sort of a Genocide problem.
