I can only assume this is the exact progression of facial expressions on my face whenever my bio dad gets drunk at family parties and whispers in my ear while hugging me for way too long, telling me how much he regrets not being there and if he could change anything in his life then he'd go back and not be a shithead to my mom and me and how he understands if I can't be that he just hopes I can forgive him and start having the relationship we never had.

Every time! And then he fades back into the woodwork immediately after. The eye roll followesnhy the beer chug is what sealed the comparison for me.

As a side note to those who ever seen something like happen: believe the adult person that you know better than the manipulator instead of assuming they're being genuine. Most members of my family understand who he is (including his mother and siblings) and bear me no grudges for my indifference. He recently did it at a big family wedding and made ME look like the bad guy to some family because I wouldn't enable his bullshit. "But he seems really sincere!" Well I wish you could have listened to the 15 other times this happened too, tone of voice does not denote sincerity and do not let a master manipulate con you into thinking he cares because he hugs his daughter twice a year and tells OTHER PEOPLE he loves her. Yeah, he doesn't tell me. Probably kept feeling shitty when I never said it back, but I couldn't care less at this point.
