Police release men from immigration van blocking Glasgow street

Having volunteered for an immigration aid charity and made successful applications against home office decisions, in particular for Indian nationals, there are numerous grounds for this person to apply for asylum under the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999.

This persecution must be because of:

  • race
  • religion
  • nationality
  • political opinion,

or anything else that puts the person at risk because of the social, cultural, religious or political situation in their country, for example, their gender, gender identity or sexual orientation.

India is a very populous and diverse country, I cannot say I understand the complexities of Indian society but as you can see the grounds for seeking asylum under UK law are rather broad and as I don't know the person personally they could be relying on one or a number of these.
