Why is polygamy a bad thing within Christianity?

God’s intention was never for a man to have more than one wife. That started with Lamech, who was from the line of Cain and took 2 wives. God permitted it - maybe due to the social plight of women plus hardness of men’s hearts - but you’ll notice it never ends well. I can’t think of a single Biblical account where multiplying wives ended happily for the family. Actually, it caused many of the family issues found in the Old Testament. Also, God placed a rule that kings in Israel were not supposed to multiply wives. For both David and Solomon that was their downfall. God knew the drama it would bring on a king’s family.

The Song of Solomon is what God intended. One man and one woman. Jesus has His bride. Once the mystery of Jesus and the church was revealed, the Holy Spirit phased polygamy out quickly.
