Why do poorer people usually have the highest number of children?

My dad is American and my mom is from a pretty wealthy country with one of the lowest birthrates in the world (the government is literally paying people to have kids although it’s not working) so several different perspectives.

One of the major differences I see between my parent’s countries is that Americans are much more impulsive and don’t think much about long term consequences of their actions. Another thing is lack of accountability and not much thought of how their actions impact those around them. Even in the English language I frequently hear “it’s not fair” “life is short” “you only live once”. Such attitudes focuses on instantaneous gratification while stunting long term goals and how you want to impact society in a meaningful way.

While in my mom’s country there is a concept of grit/endure now but will yield good results in the future or it’s nice right now but later it’s going to bring you trouble. So the awareness of the consequences of their actions is culturally instilled and having kids definitely has a huge impact on peoples lives, so plan ahead!
