Providing a conclusive definition of what occurred requires defining not only the known pathogens involved but also explaining behavior that does not match the behavior of that identified pathogen and it’s transmission within the context of the time and environment. My understanding is that bit has not been conclusively decided and the lack of agreement there is what leaves rooms to come to a better understanding of what could have allowed it to behave and spread the way it did.
