President Trump has threatened national monuments, resumed Arctic drilling, and approved the Dakota Access pipeline. I’m an environmental lawyer taking him to court. AMA!

Could you say a few things about your institution's work against the DAPL project before Trump was an issue? As we know, for 8 years the Obama administration screwed over and lied to native tribes and did not do proper environmental reviews, notify tribes as to the final routes of projects, or take into account the protection of native sites. These issues seem of little importance to white people, yet suddenly now that Trump is president they seem to be very important. When Trump is not president will they become unimportant again? What was done during the 8 years of the Obama administration to protect the environment in relation to the rights of the environment and sovereign native nations? It seems we've had eight years of silence. Is environmentalism only something that is of interest when Republicans are in control, and when Democrats are in control it's OK to rape the land, water and air? Specific examples of your work calling the Obama administration to task are very welcome here since I spent eight years watching while no one gave a shit about us.
