Problems with "pride"

Okay so.

The definition of pride:

a feeling of deep pleasure or satisfaction derived from one's own achievements, the achievements of those with whom one is closely associated, or from qualities or possessions that are widely admired

Highlight Satisfaction derived from one's own achievements

It takes a lot of time for someone to be proud to be who they are. I'm a straight white female. I had no issue accepting that part of myself. Other things, sure. But I wasn't as supressed as say, someone apart of the LGBT+ community. Or someone of a different race, or colour.

I understand why people are proud to be who they are. Whether it be their heritage, to be able to have the strength to come out and say "Hey this is me" and feel comfortable and safe out in public, and even more so to their friends and family.

My only issue with this is, I wish we didn't even need to have that sort of mentality. I wish everyone could just be without anyone shitting on them. Then we won't need ralleys. Pride marches. We can just all exist together. No one has to fight to be viewed as normal, and an accepted part of society. But eh, just a dream, right?

In some ways I see your point. But in other ways, I have to argue that, it takes a lot for some people to be okay with who they are. So I understand why they feel pride in who they have discovered themselves to be.
