PSA, there are laws that US companies have to list jobs in the US for a certain time before outsourcing them. These laws don't require competitive compensation. So when you see a ridiculous list of requirements for minimum wage, that's why.

At least in the tech startup space, Canada seems to be becoming a low-cost hub for remote workers. I live in the U.S. but work for a Canadian firm (I’m a Canadian citizen with a green card.)

Perhaps because of my geographic location in the U.S. and the fact that I work for a Canadian-based company, I’ve been contacted quite a few times by recruiters from U.S.-based startups who are looking to hire remote employees in Canada, with wages that would only make sense if they were in USD and being paid to a Canadian.

They’ve all been pretty low-ball offers. (And most of the time the offers are in CAD.)

The recruiters also seem to be based in Canada. That said, even with a favorable exchange rate, these jo s probably wouldn’t pay enough to live in Vancouver.
