PDS 8000, 1002, Sampler substitute

I've had many of these over the years and really like the way the loop can be slowed down / sped up with the delay knob, kind of like a cassette loop tape on a four track and using the speed control knob. My experience is that they either break and I can sometimes fix them, but I would like to get something more reliable. I think the Pigtronix Echolution can do this, with the knob or by expression pedal, but I've never tried one and not sure which version of the Echolution would do this - especially if it can be done with an expression pedal. If there's another pedal that would do this, I'd like to know about it, too. Thanks!
