Mel Gibson's film "Apocalypto" is an unintentional Black Power film.

Apocalypto is undeniably racist and sexist, and it is, in my opinion, the modern day exploitationist equivalent of "Cannibal Corpse". Mel Gibson was drinking heavily in those days.

Bonus points for the entire movie being in Yucatec Mayan with Central-American actors. (Mexico is Central America, fight me)

Boo to the whole thing being a conflagrated "Weird Tales"-esque white fantasy about Aztec culture, NOT Mayan.

There are beheadings. Prior to the beheadings, there are hearts cut out of ribcages, in one instance, from the perspective of the heart.

Hooray for the scaffolding on the pyramids.

There are well-decorated men of the same tribe abducting youth and murdering them. There are raids of villages resulting in property damage and rape. There are examples of the men in power shooting free individuals of a perceived lesser clan in the back for sport.

There is a man who falls in mud and becomes entirely black and god-like in his abilities and defeats adversity. Who is immediately rocked by the sight of white colonial ships.

The Joker fell in a vat of weird acid and conquered Gotham.

An impoverished, oppressed man darkened his skin and found redemption and mOvEd BaCk tO AfRiCa.

Fred Williamson couldn't do any better with a team of cryptologists.
