The reason survival games are popular isn't because of the survival aspect, and the reason survival games are tiresome to others isn't because of survival games. I can prove it.

Yeah, The Long Dark is a better game. Admittedly if I had to grade all survival games in general 95% of them would get an F but I would grade TLD maybe a C-. There's maybe 3 or 4 other games I'd be willing to grade below a D. But the issues with TLD that are there absolutely do ruin the game. A survival game like this must be multiplayer, because if it isn't then you'll have a setup like they have now where hunting is unrealistically easy, the amount of food you get from say a deer is unrealistically small, clothing degrades too fast, etc. and I understand why these things are put in place. They're a way to keep people from hibernating in their houses like what you should expect to find in a real life situation. The problem is that all of these unrealistic balance mechanics ruin the game. These tweaks must be correct, otherwise a survival experience isn't going to be simulated correctly. The only solution for a game like this is to make it multiplayer. That way hibernating in your house won't be so easy. The other thing is seasonal changes aren't implemented and because of that trees and flora have no depth and play little part in survival, where in reality flora plays a big part in survival. The other aspect is there is no building or crafting depth. A real life wilderness survival has building and crafting just about everything. Bushcraft and primitive skills should play a central theme and be the core aspect of wilderness survival and TLD has hardly any. I believe you can craft a bowdrill and maybe a bow and a spear or something but that's it. I have other gripes and it does have some good things in it but these are mainly the reasons I give it a C-.
