A created some charts to show some measures of the quality of non-conference opponents by major teams
over a ten year period in order to get an idea of the quality of scheduling and the direction it's
taking. These are percentages of the number of games in a category division divided by the total number
of regular season non-conference games in a year. Major teams are teams that were in the major
conferences at the time. The categories measured are percent of teams that finished top 10, percent of
teams that finished ranked, percent of major oppoennts played, percent of FCS opponents played, the
winning percentage of opponents against FBS teams, the percent of games played at home and the percent
of games played away. For 2016, I used rankings and win/loss records from 2015 for the 2016 schedules. Overall, I'd say the level of non-conference schedule has not changed much.
