Recruiters of Reddit, what is the craziest recruitment story or weirdest application you've seen?

I source for the hospitality industry and have some high profile clients.

We were looking for candidates for an opening which would head a $14 million / year operation at a resort - the job required head chef experience at a high volume upscale restaurant.

We posted the job on multiple sites and I received one resume that was close to what we were looking for but wasn't quite there - I called the guy, ended up liking him and brought him in for a sit down interview. He ended up not being polished enough and we passed - I let him know and he didn't take it well but I thought that was the end of it.

Three days later - I get a resume from a name someone else, having worked at most of the same places as the guy I had interviewed and passed on, but with experience in positions that more closely matched what we were seeking.

I couldn't catch him on the phone, but we set up an interview via email - recruiters and people in the industry often don't have schedules that sync well so this is an accepted practice.

We met a few days later and it was the first guy, wearing a hat, glasses and having shaved his goatee. I felt like I was interviewing Dwight from The Office minus the bandages - but I was amused, I really wanted to see how bought in he was and how long he'd let the attempted ruse go, but about 5 minutes in I told him I knew who he was and he picked up his resume and almost ran out of there.

This happened a few years back and I still wonder what he was thinking and what made him believe it would have been anywhere near possible to have pulled it off. I later found out he had been caught embezzling money and was having a hard time finding a job.
