give reddit a chance

Thank you for the reasoned and well articulated reply. I was unsure of what /r/circlebroke was as such please excuse my initial skepticism. That said, in reply and an outside perspective...

Insofar as /u/ekjp linking to a PM I as well had seen that brought up time and time again. While I personally didn't think it as damning as others it regardless seemed like a pretty silly mistake for someone to make. Having it clarified by her in as far as admins actually being able to link to their PM's totally cleared it up, and I think in that particular case the voting pattern shows most of Reddit now understands how she made the error. Was it blown out of proportion? Totally. Was anyone aware that admins could do that though? I don't think so, as such it wasn't a totally unreasonable thing to point out.

Next, as far as /u/kn0thing is concerend, his popcorn comment was tone deaf. He's been the first to admit it. His terrible response was actually what made me reevaluate my opinion of Ellen and take them at their word that the admins are just out of touch. I don't think it's asking too much to ask her to at least try to Reddit like a normal person might. Stick to small subs, make great comments, don't complain about downvoted, and keep it up. The majority will be swayed if she actually means what she's been saying. Her ongoing silence has allowed the worst of the disgusting things you've mentioned to continue to perpetuate. The sooner people realize she's a real person the sooner opinion will begin to sway. Based on the information we have you can't blame the average person for being skeptical. Her suit against her previous employer seemed both frivolous on merit and to eclipse her job at Reddit, her husband and his legal troubles are ethically dubious at absolute best, and she's been horrible at communicating the changes she wants to see with the user base. She needs to improve relations with the user base above all else. It's going to suck, people are going to be assholes, but if she's genuine people will come around sooner rather than later.
