Reddit, have you ever been scammed? How and how did it end?

I wasn't scammed myself, but I was somewhat involved.

My Grandma received a call late at night and the caller claimed to be me. The person claiming to be me said they were in a car accident in Montreal and they were drunk, and my Dad can't find out (something I would totally say).My grandma and I have this running joke where I say I'm her favorite grandson. The caller said that line and my grandma believed it was me. I can see any scammer using that line, but it was clear indicator to my grandma that she was actually speaking to me.

The caller asked for $2000 by money order, and good ol' Grandma comes to the rescue of her favorite grandson and sends the money.

Later that night my uncle decided he would come by my place to see if I was home in Ontario or was I really in Montreal. I was having a party this night and to my uncles surprise I was home. He immediately thought I was scamming my own grandmother.. He kept asking "So you're not in Montreal?". I say "No, I'm clearly in Ontario speaking to you" not knowing anything that's going on at this point. After some confusion it was clear my Grandma was scammed.

Police said not much could be done.

My Grandma took it well. Said "I guess I can't go to the casino for a while haha". Years later we just laugh about it.
