Do you regret enrolling into UofT?

First of all, CONGRATS! I’m not going to lie UofT is hard as shit. I’m in my second year at UTSG and have really only known the COVID experience, so take what I say with a grain of salt. For reference, I take a double major, I am a commuter student and I work part-time. Everyone has different experiences here and it’s whatever you make it to be. That being said Uoft is a difficult school, the experience from other universities is also very different because of it’s location. Are you ready to possibly live or spend most of your time in the city? That means things like figuring out the TTC and lots of budgeting. UofT is also massive, depending on your program you may be one of thousands. The school is competitive, are you okay with a lack of immediate community? I’m not saying there is no community, but you need to create/foster your own. You need to join clubs or network with people to build relationships unlike high school/smaller universities/small programs. The school is difficult, you have to be diligent and consistent in your work. Your first marks will be low and maybe even marks following will be lower than expected, you have to stay motivated and learn from failure. That being said, I do not regret UofT. Classes are large yes, but at UTSG at least, the buildings are beautiful. It definitely has the Hogwarts feeling at some of the buildings. You are downtown which is expensive but also fun. UofT is not know for partying, but it’s downtown, there is no need for parties really when you have clubs and pubs and bars so close. And if that’s not your thing there’s galleries and museums and shopping everywhere. Classes are also hard, but depending on what you study, very interesting. I recommend researching the shit out of classes/professors before you take classes. There are mixed feelings out there about the quality of profs at UofT, what I can say is that sometimes it does feel like the movies. Profs have lead research programs around the world they have worked with great minds and some are great minds themselves. Sometimes you take a class or get a prof that makes you realize you are really learning worldly shit. (Profs are still people though and there are shitty ones too, that’s why you should research) Basically if you are resilient and can learn from failure I definitely think you can make UofT a great experience.
