The Replicant and Standards for Tidiness

I feel you. My husband is terrible for that.

To be honest, the only reason I've actually gotten better at all at keeping house is because we have kids. Before kids we were classic hoarders.

Garbage piled up, stuff rotting in random places, simple spills being hour long operations, living in constant fear of there being an emergency that would require people coming into our house at a moments notice...

Nowadays, I can get the main areas of the house cleaned up and organized in maybe 8 hours(with a toddler nothing is fast). But bedrooms, my husbands office, the cupboards, and closets? Fuck. Nope. I need to spend at least two days with no sleep doing that and don't you dare look in my shed afterwards...

I make sure I stay on top of garbage, food, and pet mess because I am not about to have my kids taken away from me but beyond that I'm a disaster. Most of my furniture is the kind with hidden storage so cleaning up can be mostly just tossing shit into other shit. Even still, toys, clothes, books, craft supplies... Everywhere. I'm not even certain that I have a floor most days. Crayon stays on the wall for weeks/months at a time...

There are some apps that help but even after keeping the house spotless for a few weeks it only takes one bad migraine for the house to get to the point where I'm overwhelmed and have to fight with everything I have to get up and start cleaning. It feels like being told to climb Mt. Everest by myself with no arms or legs.
