[Rodina/Nomos/Invicta/Rolex/Seiko/etc] Homage vs. Counterfeit/Knockoff?

Rodina is virtually a 100% copy as every single aspect is an attempt to recreate a specific model by Nomos. As quoted on another forum "This layout goes back to the days of early watchmaking in Glashutte. Back when Stowa, Kano, GO, Union, Lange, and various other German brands purchased dials from the same factory. This town was birth to lots of great brands and schools of thought when it comes to watchmaking & design - aka Behaus. Check out this Kano design from 1930 http://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l95/might_kazoo/watches/kano/0cc8dcdf-08ac-49ad-8ef4-25d3b79da4a6_zps6cf4f0c7.jpg

The dial in question comes from that factory's design book and was inspired by the region. Eventually becoming synonymous with the region.

Due to poor sales all of these brands eventually shifted away from this style dial to capture a global market. It wasn't until Nomos rebooted the dial in 1992 and over the next decade received critical acclaim. This caused brands to go back in their archives and re-release models. In 2003 Stowa re-released their model and this is all confirmed by Jörg Schauer himself.

SeaGull/Rodina has no historical or regional ties to Glashutte, Germany, Behaus styling, or Glashutte School of watchmaking. It's simply a Chinese knockoff where the only aesthetically difference is the logo.

Rodina did not copy the Behaus style, it copied Nomos's take on the behaus style. Every single aspect of Nomos's design was ripped off. SeaGul Rodina went as far as mimicking the finishing of the movement, the hangar style lugs, the font, the hands, the color way, the strap, the text around the case back, proportions, clasp.

Heck, Rodina went as far as putting "German made" on the dial despite being 100% Chinese. After backlash they changed it. China has no trade restrictions so all of this is "legal".

Let's just call a spade a spade. Its no different than this replica/homage of a Tudor Black Bay. http://forums.watchuseek.com/showthread.php?t=1830242

Behaus on a budget? no - This is a Nomos Tangomat replica for those on a budget."
