It’s Impossible to Criticize Multiracial Asian Privilege Without Prejudice

Henry Golding was cast as the lead in a huge Hollywood movie without a single acting credit to his name! Someone found his pleasingly white features to be an acceptable version of what Asians should look like, and now he’s rich and famous. How on earth is that not privileged?

Of course he’s not white-passing; he’s obviously Asian, and it sucks that he’s ever been made to feel like he doesn’t belong. He does belong! But for you to go on about how difficult he’s had it without mentioning he is where he is precisely because of his whiteness — it all feels so one-sided. You mentioned to me there’s a place for this conversation to be had; well, I think a great place for that would have been your article.
