what GucciiBalboa says is not exactly true. First they don't just put your video to their youtube channel and that's it. That helps with promotion but most of them have actual connections with TV people and people that write for various websites. Waiting is not wise because the longer it's on youtube the less newsworthy it becomes and TV shows move to the next cool thing. That's how reddit works too. Second, there is way more money to be made from TV than from youtube ads. 1000 views comes out to like 50 cents in average, so a video with million views makes what - $500? You can get that much from only one tv show and you can license it multiple times. And third, while you make 50 cents per 1000 views, a large youtube network makes like $2 dollars or more per 1000 views because they generate more views and advertisers are willing to pay more to buy all that traffic. It depends on what kind of video it is and who wants to advertize on it, but your 100% of 50 cents is definitely less than 70% of 2 dollars they'll give you. Not to mention they claim all the copies for you. Obviously don't go out there and sign with some shady company but I'm saying some of them provide a valuable service, otherwise they'd be out of business. People like to bitch about it on reddit and youtube but licensing companies make things easier for people who happen to film something interesting and they also make it easier for TV shows that want to license the footage. They are only annoying when you have a viral video and they all try to contact you at once. But so will TV shows and then you have no idea how much money to ask and how the contracts work. In any case, there's no reason to stress about any of it. They are not asking you to donate a kidney, they are offering you a chance to earn some more money than you'll earn on your own. Results may vary, but it's definitely more then what you'll earn if you do everything yourself. Unless you sign with some scammers that are all sweet talk but no delivery.
