A sensible gun owner

The logistics and personnel to fight a battle on our own soil against our own populace would be unsustainable. You couldn't transport, nonetheless produce, things that are required to sustain or win- no matter what the cost of such a war on the populace would ultimately be such a hit to productivity, and the added risk of losing control altogether, makes it a quagmire that isn't worth exploring to the tyrant. Tyrants are ultimately cowards, that make the most of their resources and ability to force.

Most importantly- it's resistance. The hit to morale on every failed raid, and the public outrage of subjugating and executing every problematic dissident is too much. You can incentivize someone to kill their unarmed neighbor, but they'd think twice if there's risk.

If people are unarmed though, makes it all the easier. Being armed is a deterrent and obstacle to tyranny.

I know people are just trying to look for solutions, but disarment isn't one of them. You can't un-invent the firearms, and you can't stop bad actors- government or otherwise- from using them. Governments have the most probability to do more harm with them
Unfortunately, you just have to adopt them. We see this likewise in nuclear arms.
