seraph's shield is to me, the ultimate reason why the seasonal model and our former directors legacy of removing content is the biggest black mark on an otherwise stellar game

and the average player just agrees with this because of a lack of knowledge of what the issue is, the issue being an outdated tacky engine from the 360 era with mmo features slapped in and calling it a day.

As an "average player" it's precisely because of my lack of knowledge that I "just agree with this."

The most reasonable conclusion is the one that requires the least assumptions not substantiated by evidence.

  • 'Bungie doesn't realize that vaulting sucks' -- unreasonable conclusion not substantiated by evidence. Of course they realize this. You know they play and care about Destiny right?
  • 'Bungie knows vaulting sucks but, inexplicably, prefers for the game to suck when they could make it suck' -- unreasonable conclusion not substantiated by evidence.

Taking those two absurd assertions out of the mix, the most reasonable conclusion one can draw in lieu of evidence to the contrary is that there is some engineering reason that it is not trivially easy to keep the content in the game year over year.

  • 'yeah but other games' -- software engineering is not an apples-to-apples thing where you can just say it's a solved problem because another game can do it. unless you've got multiple years of experience working on Destiny you're not sufficiently qualified to weigh in on what is or is not technically feasible for this game. my ignorance is exactly why I trust them. And until there's a good reason to believe they're acting in bad faith I'm going to continue to do that as it's the most plausible explanation for the current situation. (that doesn't mean it doesn't suck, it just means I think it's silly to argue that Bungie could trivially easily make it not suck.)
