[Serious] Anti Gun people of Reddit. Why do you dislike or hate firearms so much?

I'm sure you'd agree that the higher the pop density the more violence you'll see.

I don't know that to be true. Singapore and Hong Kong are very high density, very low murder rate. Likewise, Vatican City, Monaco, Korea, and Japan. Russia, Angola, Sudan, and Brazil have low population density and much higher murder rates.

My issue with guns is the fact that they are designed to kill

That's why they are awesome. When King George's soldiers kicked down doors without warrants, guns gave birth to democracy and the greatest human rights acheivement in human history. When black people were abused by Jim Crow laws, it was guns in the hands of the Nation of Islam and the Black Panthers that turned back police and lynch mobs. If Rodney King had a gun... And we haven't begun to count the number of times the FBI did not make an illegal search and seizure because they feared armed confrontation. The world is far more safe and peaceful since guns have become common. I'd rather have a few murders than the Nazis turning Warsaw into a prison without resistance, or seeing James Merdeth turned away from Ole Miss.

you can argue about going to ranges etc, but that is just practice for a time when you might need to use the gun to kill.

Its practice to use a gun as a deterrent so you dont have to kill. The inectual trap here is that murders are reported in the newspaper and you count them. The occasions in which the Philippines does NOT abuse southern Muslims because they have guns is not reported. I am confident that for every murder, there are a thousand lives saved by guns.

knife, petrol and cars all have very specific and important uses in our economy.

Likewise guns. In fact, I would say guns are more important. Petrol has little value to the economy without security from tyranny.

I feel safer in the UK
