[serious] People of Reddit who were born into a wealthy family, when did you realize you were wealthy and not everyone had loads of money?

I'm not very wealthy, but I grew up very comfortable. Before I realized that I grew up with more than most other people, I actually had a series of realizations to the tune of "oh, my friend is rich." In my late teens, I realized a lot of my friends had wildly extravagant lifestyles that did not line up with what our parents had told us as young children, that we were middle class. I ended up kinda assuming that I was everyone's poor friend until I went to college and met people whose home lives were so different from what I grew up with that they seemed surreal. These were people who called stuff "gay," and threw eggs at houses, and had been inside a Walmart. They had pants that cost less than $100, and willingly drank milk that wasn't organic.

These differences really come into play when I am forced to make aggressive decisions at work. I will often shock people under me by my willingness to throw away things that they think are expensive, or scrap some physical thing to save the cost of people's time. Even when I'm actually saving money by doing so, the ease with which I can throw away expensive things sets me apart from people as an adult.
