[Serious] Redditors from India - Is caste system considered a thing of the past among young people?

This is so spot on as well. I live in India, I am a Hindu (Upper-Caste Brahmin, not that it matters) and I live in a locality with a lot of Muslims here. None of them are ethnically related to Arabs, Persians or the Afghans which is true for most Muslims in India except Pathans who are basically Pashtuns (Their homeland is in the Eastern Pakistani Border and their culture is afghan to some extent, thanks to Durand Line) who came to India during the Partition. Now, the right wing hindutva conservative nutjobs try to portray Muslims as foreign invaders who raped, pillaged and plundered India and tried to subdue the Hindu culture (as perceived by the right wingers which in fact is very far from reality) while the glorious warriors of Hindustan defended against them and ultimately defeated them (The Maratha Confederacy) which could not be any more far from the truth because the fact remains that the Marathas were nothing else other than ruthless conquerors (they looted hundreds of temples and imposed a massive tax on the people only comparable to the British one) just like the Durrani Empire but happened to be Hindu to have defeated the Mughals whose emperor was equally ruthless and also radical during that time anyways. They also portray ancient Hindu society on the lines of Victorian values which they support which could be more far from the truth. Now, most normal people with the basic knowledge of Indian history know pretty well that India had about two golden ages; one was during the Mauryan (During Ashoka's reign) & Gupta Empires and one during the 'Islamic' Mughal Period (Akbar to Shah Jahan) during which time art, culture and science flourished. The thing with the right wingers who supported center-right BJP (Modi's Party) is that they want to deny Muslims from having any part of Indian history since of course they are not Hindus. Now the problem with American-born Indians, American-Indians and Non-Resident Indians is that they don't know much about Indians but are usually up to date about politics and nowadays the only ones with relevance in Indian politics who promote the superiority the perceived Indian culture (refurbished victorian era ones) are these nutjobs since they have connections with the ruling party. So they end up with this skewed idea about India's culture and history.
