My mother has schizophrenia. There is an aspect to the disease called anosognosia, meaning the affected has no self-awareness that they have a problem. So her disease is completely uncontrolled and there is no way to get her to take medication unless she is being held for 72 hour psych hold. She suffers from paranoia, delusions, hallucinations, etc. She blames everyone else because she truly thinks she is "normal" and everyone else is shutting her out for no reason. Her behavior, at times, has made me fear for my own safety. She will send me hundreds of texts in a matter of hours, leave notes on my doorstep without anyone seeing she came by, etc. My parents are divorced, and we have had the police involved in many occasions where she slashed tires, stole property, and once, lied to get a protective order against my father and then moved into his house. They were separated at the time, her name was still on the lease, so technically there is nothing police could do. It's sad because her disease has cost her a normal life; a job, and any relationship with her family, and she has no understanding of it.
