[Serious] Small, American Business owners of Reddit, what do you think of a minimum wage increase?

even though this is on the other end of the spectrum, i've met a lot of interesting people in the year that i've been at walmart. 80% of "success" is just showing up. there will be people that get hired, go through the boring and long training, then just not show up and complain that they got fired&make up tons of excuses. or get hired and literally not do anything, and get fired shortly after because they take 1 and 2 hour breaks during their shift.

there was one guy in particular, he got hired on at the same time as me. he was in his 30s with kids. he was mentally and physically was able to do inventory management(i point that out, because there are a lot of people that mentally can't do anything other than tell a customer where the toilet paper is or push carts... just how it is.. its sad :/) got fired for not showing up and disappearing while on the clock, he left the store and came back to clock out, I guess.

he went on to work at a local boat manufacture, a powder coating/painting place, a rent to own joint and now hes currently at a quick stop cashiering/cooking/whatever. but he job hops to make more money, or so he says. that's 5 jobs in a year..

then another person(20 or 21 year old) that started a few months after me, some what cared about his job, showed up every day, was helpful, etc. was willing to go to another walmart for a couple of months and work 50+ hours a week for renovations. he came back and was promoted to some management position and went from making $9 an hour to $13 in under a year of working, just because he showed up and put in effort.

tldr; when it comes to jobs, people just dont give a flying shit, but still want a lot out of their employer.

i'm not sure that with how little I do at walmart that I should make $15 an hour, it would be nice, sure. but the amount of work that I do(im not denying that im lazy sometimes) and the amount of work I see other people do, that they should make $15 an hour either.
